1.8 Initial Account Setup

To begin my Linkedin page, I started off by creating a banner of my work, displaying what kind of work I’ve produced before to gain a quick insight into who I am as a 3D artist (1.7.1). Next, I created a semi-short headline, touching upon my skills, university, and being a representative, cut into 3 segments (1.7.1). Next was to display my experience and education. Although I don’t currently have the industry experience, I thought it was worth adding that I’ve worked before (1.7.2). I then later removed the experience displayed on my profile in the settings (1.7.3) (1.7.1). In terms of the about me, this was my first one, and although other accounts had a short and sweet one, my intent was to add a hooking caption “I caught fire working” to hook the user into opening it up, showing a structured about me page (1.7.4)! Finally, I added my education, only adding my College & University.

I later found out that to get the skills and featured menu as research, you had to play around with the settings to make them display in the first place. In this case, I forgot about the importance of these components as they weren’t visually present for me, however later down the line I added them in, and my results definitely changed!

2.6 Linkedin Profile

This showcase is the final result of my Linkedin Progress! My profile looks much better, having a better profile picture, removing my representative status to make the headline more short and sweet, and keeping the original banner! After the 2 weeks of progress, I added a featured section (2.6.2) in which I added all posts, having people come to my profile and see what I’ve made! I later turned it into a more job opening portfolio, having my CV on the left, my personal website in the middle to have a call to action, and an ArtStation on the right, as this is the “portfolio” every 3D artist should have! Kept my Education (2.6.3). Added some skills (2.6.4) and even got some endorsed! Displayed my company interests and known languages (2.6.5), kept my experience, but shorted them down to more relevant skill sets acquired (2.6.6). Finally, my about me (2.6.7) was a little too big when looking back. This was mainly due to me using my about me as a CV, however, when I created my CV, I would have needed to remove some aspects. On the other hand, It does make it easy to see what I can do without having to scroll and find my CV, languages, and intent for an internship, so can be viewed both ways!

2.7 Improving Your CV

My CV creation process was interesting. I initially made a black and white CV (2.7.1), outlining who I am, big chunks are taken from my experience, and a mini list of my professional skills, with the intent of adding a profile image! It’s important to note that including a photo of you on your CV could have a negative impact on your job application due to some strict anti-discrimination and labour laws. Companies must be able to prove that their hiring processes are free from any profiling based on race, gender, age, appearance, etc.

After some feedback, I was simply told “You’re not a black and white kinda guy” to which I surprisingly agreed with! I revamped my CV to a more colourful (2.7.2), minimizing my irrelevant experience to only contain transferable skills, and added a proud projects page, and a few extra icons! I’ve also removed the profile image and added my Linkedin banner to showcase my work, whilst giving the page more colour!

2.8 Linkedin Networking | Seeking Guidance

It was quite amazing to talk to so many people on Linkedin that are working directly within an industry or are also on the same track! I’ve gathered some quote highlights of all the people I’ve spoken with! I can’t express enough how each person shown here has talked, having paragraph discussions!

2.9 Linkedin Appreciations | Idols

Having done my previous RSA project on my Biophilic Divider, I found the author of a book I used for my research (who is also very well known in the biophilic community), so I reached out to him and showcase my divider! I was actually amazed that I got a response back! It realty hit me how powerful Linkedin really was, having access to directly message people who you admire or couldn’t reach out to otherwise!

3.0 Linkedin Interactions

3.1 Linkedin Analytics

At the end of the 12 weeks, I’ve gathered a total of 269 Connections and 277 Followers (3.1.1)! I was quite proud of this, as this surpassed my smart target by a long shot! It was quite interesting when checking out my profile views (3.1.2) that I noticed 20 people have not actually checked out my profile and simply asked for a connection! My overall impressions were outstanding (3.1.3), having my posts show up over 8000 times to people! Statistically, I found that Monday, Tuesday and Friday were the top days for me to post, as that’s there I received the most impressions and engagement, whilst still posting between 10:00 am to 14:00 pm GMT! Out of those 8000 impressions, I engaged with 192 (1.3.4)! LinkedIn calculates engagement rate by adding the number of interactions, clicks, and new followers acquired, divided by the number of impressions the post receives, so 192 is quite impressive!

After all my talking with various people, I found that adding up the word count of all their responses came to over 10,000 Words (3.1.5), an average of 600 words per response! That’s insane! I then put the text into a generator to remove commonly used words and pasted the text into a sentiment generator. This displayed all keywords that could determine what I need to focus on from their advice, such as software, blizzard, concept, luck, Maya, style, practice, and so much more!

3.9 Content Plan & Smart Targets

4.0 Instagram Posting

I’d like to start by mentioning that Reels are too good! Uploading various reels, I found that some got thousands, and some only hundreds. I experimented with different sounds and content, and found that simply visually appealing videos work the best! My top 2 Reels were the frog tutorial (with music, skipping frames to the beat), and a calming 3D environment scene. From this, I can tell what audience I have, and what type of reels I should be making! It’s also worth noting that the reels that gain thousands of views, keep gaining, and the ones that only get hundreds tend to stay there.

When posting content, I believe that I’ve tried quite a few content types! Ranging from 3D, AR, to behind the scenes! I found that the posts with carousels that have an “aesthetic-visual-educational purpose” did better than the ones simply showing off work. Once this was figured out, I found that I needed to post more of that content!

Stories were also quite fun, having experimented with various functions, from a heart rating to a questionnaire! I found that the questionnaire worked much better than a simple rating, as it turns out people like being right! Not to mention it’s a simple tap to see if you’re right or wrong, to which either case could lead a “call-to-action” and make them tap the post to land on my profile!

4.1 Instagram Insights

Looking at my bio, I have 4 clear lines: My Industry Choice, Background, University, and a call-to-action that links to my personal website portfolio! In the end, I obtained a total of 97 followers with 14 posts, posting more quality, and less quantity!

Looking into my “Insights Overview”, I found everything shown quite useful! I set the insights from March 14th due to this being the date of my first post! I was able to reach 16.8k accounts, and engaged 595 of those, which is quite impressive! Moving onto my “Followers and Non-followers”, I found that my initial plan with reels was correct, having gained 13.6k from reels, and have them possibly click my profile! Posts were reaching out to non-followers again, meaning my hashtags worked (shown in the previous slide)! It was quite interesting that I only reached 49 of my followers out of the 97, a clear indication that I need to clear ghosts, bots, or users who aren’t interested anymore!

4.2 Instagram Posts Insights

I was quite fascinated with Instagram’s boosting, so I spent £1 on a post to see what would happen, and the outcome was interesting! I saw that my post reached 699 people, 68% of which was from the ad! I made sure the thumbnail was somewhat interesting to tap on, and it seems that 2 users tapped the add! This also increased my profile activity by 14, having these users look through all my posts and overall increase engagement!

Within a post, you could also gain insights to what gender your highest audience was, and what age they were! I find this quite helpful as this means I could create the next post to target those specific audiences!

4.3 Google Analytes

Google Analytics synced up with my personal website portfolio (the one you’re currently on)! Once again, I set the date to the 14th of March as this was when I started doing all the Social Media Campaigns! It was quite nice knowing that 42 users visited my website and spent an average of 40 seconds on it! You can do a lot in 40 seconds, click various links, scroll through projects, find their contacts, and in general see the type of person I was from my website!

I liked seeing both United Kingdom and the United States people on my website, as this means my call to actions from Linkedin, where I have mostly American connections, and Instagram, where I have mostly UK followers, have clicked on my website! Going further, 18 out of 42 clicked my link directly from my call-to-action, but interestingly I was searched up 9 times and then had my website clicked on!

Google Analytics also gave me user insights! Seeing what browser they used the most allows me to update my website to work better on those browsers! Top Day of Week was good to know, as I could adjust my social postings on those days to get more people to click on my call-to-action. Finally, the languages used was quite interesting to know, and I found that some Japanese, Chinese and Russian users clicked on my website, just quite fascinating!

4.4 ArtStation

Finally, I wanted to mention that I made an ArtStation account as I found it was vital for people in my industry! Everyone on Linkedin has told me to make an ArtStation due to this being the main portfolio that anyone would look at if they were hiring 3D artists! Although Instagram was interesting to work with, I believe that I will only use reels, and direct users, to my ArtStation, as the algorithm on ArtStation doesn’t gain you many views at all if you’re a new account.

Within my ArtStation, I posted all the 3D work I’ve made so far, but kept it minimal, yet informative! I displayed behind the scenes, how I made certain materials, and of course, beauty renders! I created a different banner as it required a new size, displaying my work. I’ve made a general summary about me for anyone who checks out my portfolio. And finally, I filled out what skills I currently have, allowing recruiters to see what skills I have used within my creations!
